Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. Harris is the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform, federal cannabis de-scheduling, an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. In the news, attention was paid to her shrewd questions of Trump administration officials during Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
